Kaplan Aspect students win trophy in Youth Enterprise at Ringwood School
In September 2007 over twenty Year 12 students, including some of the Kaplan Aspect A-level program students, chose the Ringwood Youth Enterprise activity as their ‘enrichment activity’ on Wednesday afternoons.
Students were set the challenge of forming a business and producing a product aimed at the Christmas market.
Akshin Jalilov from Azerbaijan and Xuewen Liu from China, together with an English student, formed a team they called “Something Simple”. They competed against 3 other teams to develop a small business enterprise.
Each team had to raise all necessary finance, produce or source their product, advertise and sell the products. The program culminated in the students giving a presentation of their idea and efforts to a judging panel of three Ringwood Rotary Club members on Wednesday 5th March 2008.
‘Something Simple’ delivered Christmas candy canes, while other teams produced BMX t-shirts, Sixth Form calendars, and Christmas cards featuring photographs taken on a school visit to Kenya, with all proceeds donated to the project.
The overall winner was ‘Something Simple’ who had produced Christmas candy canes. They also collected the best product and best report award.
Well done “Something Simple”!
The aim of the Youth enterprise is to develop business acumen and leadership qualities among young people in Britain. Bear in mind that universities look for students who not only have good A level grades but have been involved in activities at their school. Youth Enterprise is an excellent activity for students wanting to study Business or Management and will certainly make university applications stronger.
