OPUS and Internship Newsletter - March
This month the focus is on London and we bring you a number of Kaplan Aspect success stories. With winter gone for another year, there is a definite spring in our step!
Internship Program in London - the first step toward a dream career for one happy student
Our congratulations to Kaplan Aspect intern Marie Habbinckuys (below), who can reflect fondly on her internship at “In and Around Covent Garden” Magazine. Whilst working in London, Marie, aged 19 and from France, had the chance to write the first ever article of her own. Here’s what she had to say:
“The placement here at IAACG fits very well into my future as I hope one day to become a journalist. Working here has been very rewarding. I have tested my abilities in a foreign country and improved skills such as working on a computer and writing articles. Furthermore, I have gained an overview of everyday life in a promotional publishing company and have definitely improved my English. I have absolutely adored my time in Covent Garden and I hope to return as soon as possible”.
A warm welcome this month to Julia Koch, Joanna Simeonowa and Tanja Schoessler (left). All three are new starters on the Internship program at Covent Garden. Following their English courses, Julia will broaden her knowledge at the Revenue Department of the Hilton Hotel; Tanja will work at a legal office specialising in immigration; while Joanna will gain valuable experience at a culture and communications solutions consultancy. We wish them every success!
OPUS Program in London - exciting new relationship creates fresh opportunities
This month, we have established a new relationship with the large and popular Latin American restaurant chain Las Iguanas in London. How appropriate then that our first student to be placed with the successful chain should come from the same continent!
Maria Angelica (below), aged 21, is a Colombian student whose objective in coming to the UK was to improve her English and gain international work experience. Maria Angelica had no previous work experience; however, through the OPUS Program, she has won a work placement in Las Iguanas’ flagship restaurant on the South Bank in central London. What does Maria Angelica think about her job?
“I really enjoy my work as it is always lively and the atmosphere is great. My managers are supportive and understanding. I have to speak in English to customers and other staff members so my spoken English has improved very quickly. At the moment I am helping the waiting staff as a runner, but my goal is to become a waitress in a month when I am more experienced.”
Maria’s story is a fine example of how the OPUS Program continues to go from strength to strength!
